Para mahasiwa menuntut agar anggota DPRD yang dilantik mampu bekerja lebih baik bila dibandingkan dengan anggota DPRD periode sebelumnya. Mereka juga meminta agar aparat keamanan mengusut dugaan kasus korupsi yang dilakukan oleh salah satu anggota DPRD. Dalam unjuk rasa tersebut, sempat terjadi aksi dorong-mendorong mahasiswa dengan polisi. Para mahasiswa bersikeras agar diizinkan masuk ke komplek Islamic Centre, untuk menyaksikan jalannya acara pelantikan. Mereka juga meminta anggota DPRD terlantik menandatangani kontrak politik dengan rakyat. Namun karena tidak diizinkan masuk, para mahasiwa berusaha menerobos barisan polisi, sehingga terjadi aksi dorong-mendorong. Ketua PMII Cabang Brebes, Afifudin Jufri mengatakan, pemilu merupakan ajang jual beli rakyat. Politik yang terjadi pada Pemilu lalu, masih banyak diwarnai dengan uang. Oleh karena itu, para mahasiswa meragukan kinerja para anggota DPRD. Menurut dia, dalam Pemilu lalu, rakyat hanya dijadikan sebagai komoditas. "Pemilu juga diwarnai dengan berbagai pelanggaran. Unjuk rasa dilakukan untuk menuntut janji anggota DPRD yang diberikan saat kampanye," ujarnya. Pelantikan 50 anggota DPRD Brebes periode 2009-2014 dilakukan oleh Ketua Pengadilan Negeri Brebes, Sigit Purwoko. Terpilih sebagai pimpinan sementara DPRD Brebes yaitu Ilia Amin dari PDIP dan Pamor Wicaksono dari Golkar. Dalam sambutannya, Ilia Amin berharap agar hubungan legislatif dan eksekutif dapat berjalan secara harmonis.
